Welcome to Cravings of an Expat, where we aim to tap into the foods that give us all the feels from our memories of places lived, travelled, and visited.
Whether it’s grandma’s house for the holidays, camp over the Summer, or an epic trip to somewhere exotic – I want to taste those feelings. I hope you find something that conjures up your own memories, be it from the friend’s house down the street or a hole-in-the wall café on the other side of the world!
What’s Cookin’ Good Lookin’?
Tales from Around the Globe: My Favorite Culinary Classes
My favorite way to explore a new (or in some cases repeat) travel destination is to find a culinary experience, usually by way of a cooking class, to help me better understand the local cuisine. Please feel free to explore my library of culinary classes in the link below if you are looking for a recommendation. Additionally, if you would like to add to the list, please feel free to contact me with your favorites.
About Me
My name is Emmy and I like to cook. I’ve been an American expat since 2013, living in Singapore, Tokyo, Dubai, and Doha (currently). My childhood was spent in both Wisconsin and North Carolina, followed by 10 years in Chicago. After that, I embarked on this little adventure, which has turned into what is now my life. My cooking style is a voyage between my Midwest and Southern roots coupled with many countries in between.
My love of cooking started with my first cooking show produced by my older sister when I was 6 years old. I attempted to put together some sort of oatmeal cookies in between “takes” which were a result of screaming at the camera lady – my sister – for teasing me.
To say I’m here to “inspire” you would be a lie. I just want to make good food - and to quote an old friend after eating a banana pudding that I brought to a barbecue in Singapore - “that people like to eat.”
